The first meteor shower of 2009 should peak on the mornings of Jan. 3 and Jan. 4.
It’s called the Quadrantid meteor shower, named for the extinct constellation Quadrans Muralis. Stardate.org reports that the shower is fairly reliable, but it has a short peak.
Estimates range from a few dozen to 100 meteors per hour. Look to the northeast sky after 11 p.m. for the best viewing.
