Here are some interesting statistics from the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America as the 2008 hurricane season draws to a close:
- Texas had the misfortune of experiencing two significant storms this year, hurricanes Ike and Dolly.
- 2008 is the fourth mostly costly season on record.
- There were eight hurricanes that caused a combined $11 billion in insured losses.
- The last hurricane of the season, Paloma, hit Cuba Nov. 9 and made 2008 the only season with major hurricanes in five separate months.
- This year also has the distinction of being the first season where three Atlantic tropical storms in July (Bertha, Cristobal, and Dolly) were active on the same day.
