This time of the year it’s easy for Texans to forget about the tropics as the cold fronts begin arriving.
But looking at the National Hurricane Center Web site Monday afternoon shows why the hurricane season runs through November.
There are four systems being monitored by the hurricane center.
Nana became a tropical storm in the deep Atlantic on Sunday, but has since been downgraded to a tropical depression. It’s moving west-northwest and could break apart tonight.
There’s an area of thunderstorms south of Nana. Thunderstorms have become more concentrated, but it’s likely to be swallowed up by Nana.
Closer to Texas, tropical depression 15 has formed in the central Caribbean. The storm was stationary, but on the verge of becoming a tropical storm.
The fourth area is in the southwestern Caribbean and has better than a 50-percent chance of strengthening as it moves north or northwest.
Forecasters at the hurricane center have definitely been earning their money today.
