Lots of folks are pondering exactly where Hurricane Ike will make landfall as it generally moves toward Texas.
I certainly don’t have the answer and I suspect the National Weather Service forecasters are grappling with that question.
Three of the latest hurricane model runs I watch take the storm into Houston this weekend and three take it into Corpus Christi, putting Victoria smack dab in the middle.
Oh, if forecasting the weather were as easy as looking at the computer models.
The Monday afternoon forecast discussion from the National Weather Service office in the Corpus Christi office had an interesting tidbit. It notes the weather pattern is similar to the pattern associated with Hurricane Beulah in 1967.
Beulah hit just north of Brownsville, spawning a record 115 confirmed tornadoes and dropping a couple feet of rain.

Ike, DARN YOU! I have to fly out of Houston Sunday. That is, considering that I can even GET to Houston if all the contraflow lanes are open, and everyone from H-Town is headed opposite my incoming direction. Ah, well. If Ike comes our way, the least it can do is give us some much needed rain. Note, I said rain, not flood, not 100 mph winds, not ark-building weather, mind you. Otherwise, TAKE A HIKE, IKE!
September 9, 2008 at 10:43 p.m.I honestly don't think it'll be coming here, and if it does, it'll be just a tropical storm, something minor. Maybe lots of winds. Either way I'm not too worried. :P
September 9, 2008 at 4:41 p.m.For those planning ahead should the need for evacuation arise, here is a link to the TX Association of CVBs Emergency Information System. It lists cities and their corresponding hotel vacancies.

Be safe!
September 9, 2008 at 3:47 p.m.The latest National Hurricane Center forecast has Ike over Palacios about 2 p.m. Saturday. We'll see how many times that changes!
September 8, 2008 at 7:13 p.m.I'm heading to the lumber yard in the morning. When local officials jumped the gun with Rita, evac orders were given on Wednesday. Expect our leaders to start howling tomorrow afternoon.
September 8, 2008 at 6:58 p.m.They've hit all around us lately. Will our luck hold out this time?
September 8, 2008 at 6:49 p.m.I am not usually one to worry and was one of the few who did not evacuate during Rita. But I have a bad feeling we may be in for it with Ike. I have 4 different websites I go to compare the tracking and predictions. (Not counting the Advocate). All 4, Weather Channel, Weather Bug, Weather Underground and the Houston Chronicle all have model's predicting a direct hit on Texas at a Cat. 2 early Saturday. I think that we need to think about getting prepared, boarding up, and stocking up on water and food. Hopefully I am wrong, but I just have that feeling.
