Image    It won’t be long before the cold weather is gone and the spring severe weather season returns.
If you’re interested in learning more about severe weather, you’ll have an opportunity on Thursday, March 26. The National Weather Service will put on a free storm spotter training class.
It will be at 10 a.m. at the University of Houston Victoria. Contact Genaro Cortez at 361-570-4245 for more information.
I’ve attended several of these sessions over the years and they are very interesting. They were led by John Metz, who is the warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service office in Corpus Christi.
People who volunteer to serve as storm spotters play an important role in helping the weather service issue warnings and in verifying what meteorologists think they’re seeing on radar.

  • Thanx, dtewes for the heads-up. I will definitely look into participating, and my father will likely be interested, too.

  • Thanks for the information. I am always in the mood to learn something new and interesting.  However, they are more positive than I am, at our current trend in lack of rain fall it is difficult to believe, we will see any severe weather other than more drought.  Thank God I am not a farmer or rancher, looks like they may see some rough times around here.
