The federal government announced today that El Nino is making a reappearance in the tropical Pacific Ocean. That could be good news for the drought parched Victoria area. El Nino can bring beneficial rain to the Southwest, including Texas. That would help ease or eliminate the drought and reduce the wildfire problem.
It’s also not unusual for El Nino to suppress hurricane activity in the Atlantic Ocean. That’s because it creates strong winds that shear the tropical systems, keeping them from forming or from getting as intense.
Having said that, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration notes that El Niño’s impacts depend on a variety of factors. Those include the intensity and extent of ocean warming, and the time of year.
We’ll just have to wait and see.

Bite your tongue, SugarM. We need no hurricanes or tropical storms. ; ) I've been through six hurricanes and have yet to see anything good come from them.
July 9, 2009 at 9:11 p.m.So if it takes a hurricane to get us out of this drought, then El Nino could theoretically be bad all the way around?
Pardon my facetiousness, the heat has cooked my brain already. I hope you're right, Mr. Tewes, I certainly do.....
