Image    In case you didn’t read it in the Advocate, this past winter was the driest ever for Victoria.
The National Weather Service rain gauge collected only 0.74 of an inch for the period December through February. That compares to the normal of 6.95 inches.
Rounding out the top five driest winters are:

  • 1.31 inches...December 1961 through February 1962.
  • 1.77 inches...December 1970 through February 1971.
  • 2.31 inches...December 1955 through February 1956.
  • 2.33 inches...December 1916 through February 1917.
Unfortunately, the forecast calls for the drought to continue at least through May.

  • This is a little late, but I'm catching up on leisure activities (i.e., perusing the VicAd online)....
Anyhoo, the first bluebonnets I saw this year popped up a couple weeks ago in my yard, both front and back. What's so unusual about that, you say? We have NEVER had even a single bluebonnet anywhere on any of our acreage.
Tough little buggers, huh? Hope they come back next year.
    As for the drought......BOO! HISS!
    What more can one say?

  • I haven't been out of town recently. I was wondering about the wildflowers, especially in DeWitt County.
