I’m not sure why, but Gaston has me a little worried.
As a coworker put it, it just sounds like the name of a storm that is a troublemaker.
It increased to tropical storm force for a while and then weakened back to tropical depression status this morning.
The National Hurricane Center is predicting it will become a hurricane in about four days, with winds approaching 80 mph. In five days it’s forecast to have winds of nearly 100 mph.
Early in the hurricane season the storms were making landfall from Brownsville south. Recently they’ve been staying in the Atlantic Ocean.
But the high pressure that has been pushing them back out into the Atlantic can’t hold out forever. It appears to me that Gaston will be headed for the Caribbean Sea.
It’s still thousands of miles from Victoria and it’s anyone’s guess where it will make landfall. Anyone else have a gut feeling about this storm?

September 2, 2010 at 6:16 p.m.I never pondered that question. It had to be someone with a steadier hand than mine.
September 2, 2010 at 2:19 p.m.Mr. Tewes,
Have you ever wondered who took the time to draw massive white lines around all the countries in the world? A most impressive feat.
I bet it was Google :-)
