I had several request to keep updated on my sons adventures while being deployed in Iraq.
Here is one he sent out to all his family and his many friends on Valentines Day. He sends out little things when he can, he says he is VERY busy and usually sounds tired when he calls.
We sure miss him! But are VERY PROUD of him, the 1/25 Stryker's and all those that do the job!!
To All:
Happy V-Day! I hope everyone is doing well. I know its been a while since I last checked in, but I am still here. Things are going well in Iraq. The Iraqis just wrapped up their Provincial Elections. I am stationed in the Diyala Province and we had a pretty darn good turn out. The biggest concern was making sure everyone had an equal opportunity to vote. From the Sunni and Shia, to the Kurds and everyone else in between, things went well. The elections were a success all across Iraq, and with that this country grows safer everyday.
With Security improving everyday, the biggest problem now is just getting the economy going. This Country has some rich areas, and has the potential to profit tremendously outside of oil production. One would not believe the amount of orchards that are over here. Everything from oranges to dates to peas! We have the Diyala River running through the province and all along the river you find the richest soil accompanied by the thickest palm groves. Farmers can and are making a very lucrative business over here.
As for me, I am well into a routine of working seven days a week. My mid tour leave is not until June, and with almost five months behind me, it could not get here soon enough. My plans are to head to Australia / New Zealand and check out the land down under. I hear the toilets flush in the opposite direction down there, I am going to have to check this out.
I catch the news from time to time and see the economy is still slow. I hope everyone is safe and doing well.
PS: I forgot to say thank you for all of the letters and packages you have all sent to me and my fellow Soldiers. Thank You!!! You have no idea how much they are appreciated. Thank You....Thank You.....Thank You!!!

Been many places doing it.
February 17, 2009 at 8:04 p.m.Sandwichh, are you a Civil War re-enactor? That picture looks like the Shiloh battlefield, is it?
Coolgranny,
February 17, 2009 at 10:48 a.m.Yes, the flowers are loud. He talks often about how rich the area his FOB is in is very rich soil and the amount of growth there.
Hi Sandwichh, Thanks for the update. I noticed the flowers in one pic. Interesting.....Again, I keep all of our soldiers in my prayers. Handsome guy, your son.
February 17, 2009 at 9:12 a.m.Sandwich. Thanks for the letter from your son. He sounds like he is proud of what he and his buddies are seeing these days with a better Iraq. I shall always be grateful for our troops, and for their sacrifice of taking the war there so we may enjoy freedom and peace here in the USA. Our prayers go out for their safety. You deserve to be a proud dad.
