We are in Fairbanks. Long flights. You can always tell when you get to Alaska, it is different. People laid back, half the people look like true outdoorsmen not just seasonal hunters. Even most of the small businesses have "the look". Laid back area, but not a bunch of rednecks. Not that there is anything wrong with that. If not for the severe and long winter I might could live here.
Got a phone call at 3am just after we got to the motel. #2 son was on the line, he is in Kuwait. They were suppose to be in the air on the way home but plane broke down. He said that delay was better than the flight out of Balad to Kuwait. It was caused by mortor fire. He said it looks like the 20th to here.
Made some connections here to be in on the which flight in and the time he will arrive. They also said probably 20th but could be tomorrow, 19th. It's the Army. Check in to finding out where they will be arriving. Will arrive at the Air Force Base about 20 miles from here then bussed over to Wainwright to be received.
Night flights and time difference and phone calls,...takes it's toll in energy. Easier in my younger days.
