I've been told that high school kids have tattoos. Can that be true? Who lets their kids do that?

  • Unfortunately my fifteen year old niece didn't hold out for a reputable or even a talented tattoo guy - I won't call him an artist and I doubt he's a proessional.

My brother is livid, more so because his ex took their daughter to have this done. The ex doesn't have tattoos.

The whole thing is sickening. I should have known it was coming when she talked about freshmen with tats last year, a thing I still wonder about.

  • I can agree with the 18 thing.

I thought the rule was an underage person can drink at home as long as their parent or guardian is there, and they are the ones furnishing the alcohol. I don't think this rule applies to public places.

  • If kids under the age of 18 are getting tattoo's, they are either doing so with a fake ID or know someone who knows someone who can do it for them. (I'd be leary of those.)

Even with parental consent, none of the "reputable" tattoo artist's will give anyone under 18 a tat. Believe me, my daughter tried last year!!!

RU, I'm not so sure that a parent can give permission for an underage child to drink in a bar/restaurant... My ex husband and I had this same argument once when his wife allowed our child to consume alcohol at a party during their visitation.... I looked it up back then --- I'll have to find it on the net to double check, but I believe that is a myth.

As far as Tat's and Teens -- I don't think they should be allowed to get one until they are 18. Unlike the piercings, tat's are forever. and let's face it, teens don't always make smart choices

  • I'd let my child do that, provided they choose a place on their body that they don't to wear special clothing to cover it. No place that a t shirt and pants won't cover. I don't care about that, but I do agree that a tattoo can close alot of doors. So that'd be my only rule.
