Spending five and a half days at Citizens Medical Center last week, I was finally released Friday evening and am happy to say that I'm back to work today.

I won't go into the gory details, but I was admitted Sunday morning with an inflamed colon, which, by the way, is very painful. I sat in the ER waiting room for nearly two hours before a doctor could see me, but still could not receive pain medication until they had a better idea of what was going on.

After nearly 8 hours in total of side-splitting pain, I got the best drugs and the best nurses, who not only took care of me through some of the worst moments, they kept me company when the hubby could not be there.

I never realized how much work nurses really do. A simple "thank you" really couldn't suffice for the crap they wade through, literally, and the positive attitude they facilitate, which is essential to getting their patients well and getting themselves through the day.

So to all the Karens and Meagens of the world (sorry I can't name everyone as I was drugged up a lot of the time and don't remember all their names), on behalf of all patients out there, YOU ROCK!

P.S. For all who don't remember, I am a newlywed. I wouldn't have gotten through the week if it hadn't been for my husband/best friend who, suffering a massive cold, helped get me to the bathroom every two hours while I was hooked up to IVs, kept the roads hot running between the house (checking up on our puppy), the hospital (keeping me company with board games, etc.) and work (making his department happy), and just letting me test out the "in sickness and in health" clause so early on in the marriage! Also, he put up with my blubbering Thursday, my birthday, when they wouldn't let me out to celebrate properly and he had to work. I think he's well on his way to making husband-of-the-year.
