The second issue is almost here. Ryan Huddle is working furiously to get the pages designed (he'd better be anyway!), and I am anxious to see the final outcome.
With more content than before in less time, this issue was especially challenging, but in a good way - a way that makes this one closer to my heart.
The driving force behind that fondness was the people I had the privilege of interviewing - Bum Phillips and Janey Lack, to name a couple.
Mr. Phillips is seriously one of the most genuine people I've ever met. He says what he means and means what he says, a very admirable trait in a person. I hope I was able to capture that essence in the magazine as well as Victoria Advocate reporter Gabe Semenza did in the book he wrote about Bum.
Mrs. Lack is just as sweet as the dessert recipe she left me with at the end of our interview. She and I had so much fun sharing stories about our families and our lives and going out on a very, very hot day for a photo shoot.
Getting to know our sources and community is one of the greatest perks of being a journalist. I want to thank everyone who participated in the issue for making me feel more at home here and encourage all of our readers to pick it up Sept. 29 to get to know them as I have. Many Victoria residents will get the issue in their paper that day; they will be offered for free at most locations selling the Advocate, as well.
