Well if it was intended to drive the readership offline and back into print to boost sales it may work, as I find the new site lay out to be horrible... I think maybe someone wasn't paying attention in their Communications Web Design class.

  • Your right lucycou, it's not user friendly.

  • I don't understand why people are saying it's very not user friendly. I couldn't find my way around before, but now I have almost no problem. It's pretty dummy-proof. It's just a change, so it will get some getting used to, but it's definitely not user friendly. Some people are so ready to attack, it's ridiculous. Yes, I said it. Ridiculous. Calm down everybody.

  • I agree with all the comments, I was surprised when I pulled the website and found the new layout. I thought I had pulled something else. This layout is not user friendly at all, nice try but.....go back to basics, plz

  • Yana: They are print front pages...but if you click on them you can get to their e- addition.

  • I agree on the comments. I wish there were the easy button like last time "show more comments", but I cannot find one yet. I have Twitter, but don't want to follow those people. I come to the news site to read news. Not to go to Twitter and follow them. I don't care what they are doing that much.

  • I don't like the way we are limited to seeing a few comments on the front page and no way to look at comments we might have missed. I've given it a couple of days and I find I spend much less time looking at the VicAd website than before. Also, last time I posted, my real name was next to my online name. If I wanted it posted, I would have used my real name. I DIDN'T use my real name because there are some freaky people in the world and I don't want them tracking me down because I said something they don't like. I went back and changed my privacy settings but my first name still shows up. My last name would too if I had ever entered it.

  • JD - Those seem to be 'print' front pages. Print and Web pages are not the same nor are formatted the same way. I'm new to Victoria and I'm starting to get a really low sense of community and understanding here. It almost feels as if people aren't interested in growing together or understanding something first but instead jumping in to complain and judge it. I expected a little more from the local readers here. Especially since you get this online web service for free. I hope I'm wrong about that but that's what I gather from all these types of comments. I for one like the design and have finally created an account since I felt the old design was a bit dated and confusing in some ways. I feel this design is more in touch with the direction the digital world is heading. I understand the advocate is still making adjustments to the site and I'm excited to see all the final changes.

  • Well I have looked on this sight for 2 days now and its just crap. You cant find local news without clicking on 3 differnt pages. I clicked on the Second day of Bruce Ure trial to read whats going on and it says follow Tom on Twitter. Way to go advocate lets go to another web site to get information that you should be posting on your web site. The advocate is just like V.I.S.D they both do what they want when they want and how they want and when they are done they both say is there any public input on how we should do this after what they are doing is already done or the plans how they are going to do something is on paper. Lets see how long this blog is up before it gets taken away like some of my blogs due to being critical of the Advocate, V.I.S.D and the local coaching staff.

  • The new layout appears very amateurish and cheap. I no longer look forward to getting online and perusing the local news. The Advocate used to be the saving grace of news in Victoria, what with KVIC and KAVU being so laughable, but not anymore.

The following website has the front pages of over 450 newspapers, all of which put this one to shame: www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages

  • Why change something that was just fine and easy to get around!!! This is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

    March 31, 2009 at 8:54 a.m.

  • Amen to that brother! What a cluster----! And I thought the Advocate was going to a format that would promote NEWS...gee what was I thinking. The bloggers have equal space to "news stories" and the ads are bigger and more obnoxious. And what is with all that wasted white space?
