After being in Victoria for about a month now as the faith/general assignment reporter, I've come to enjoy the interesting stories and lives I've discovered around town.

Covering faith is an interesting crossroad for news. Victoria is blessed with a multitude of places to worship, more than I actually expected for this part of Texas. A mosque, synagogue and more than 100 Christian churches are here to serve our spiritual needs.

Faith is a sensitive area of discussion. For some people it fuels their lives, others it infuriates. So, I'd like to know what you all would like to see in the Victoria faith section?

What do you believe the news media is not covering enough of?

I welcome your questions and thoughts.

  • EROD (Rusty's idea),

I believe it is quite common for people to be interested in things like miracles, speaking in tongues, end times prophesy, faith healing, etc... My belief is we should be more interested in how do we (Christians) bring non-Christians to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Another thing, if there is truly faith healers they should start by going to all the major children hospitals in this country and work with their parents to heal all who want their help, and then proceed to the cancer hospitals and work with all those patients who want their help.

It seems the most important subject for all interested VA readers would be the question, "what must I do to be saved?" Actually, someone asked Jesus that very same question in Chapter 3 of the Gospel of John, and He did give him an answer. If you want to read over a hundred articles written by many evangelical pastors, go to this webpage and enjoy: http://www.faithalone.org/news/index....

    Thanks for your question.

  • Thank you all for your feedback. Oldrustybucket, I'm particularly interested in the modern day miracles. I think it would be interesting to more about what happens to people's bodies physically while speaking in tongues.

  • I thought that the column today by Frank Tilley was an excellent example of "Religion and Your Life." It brought to us a local story of the tradition and culture at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. I could see how their active faith permeates their lives.

I like the local stories which include accounts of how God has changes lives.

  • EROD: Good request. You might never run out of keyboard fodder by getting someone to explain different misconceptions or questions people have about another church. #2. What aspects of PENTECOST are foggy for some, maybe speaking in other tongues, current day miracles, "baptism of the Holy Spirit" and other "gifts of the spirit". #3. What questions, or views, do our readers have regarding "the second coming of Jesus Christ". How close is it to happening, if it even does happen? #4. How necessary is infant baptism? #5. With the two year Vatican financial shortfall, what effect will that have on the man on the street? #6. How does the public like the modern dress codes for nuns (compared to what some little kids thought were worn by witches)?
