Christmas is just around the corner, and while it's a time for getting stuff (I'm looking for the new Mark Twain autobiography) it's also a time when people try to give back. Even the Scrooge-iest old codger can be capable of stunning generosity during this time of year. So I asked IHOP patrons about what kinds of nice things they've seen people do during the holidays.

“One of the nicest things I’ve seen is this Christmas tree they have at Denny’s. They have little ornaments on it and each ornament has a child’s name on it and a gift they need. I think that’s a really nice thing to do.” – Brenda Walston, massage therapist, Huntsville.

“Toys for Tots is nice because they give toys to children who need them.” – Bethany Baker, student, Victoria.

“I like that Toys for Tots program because those little kids really need something for Christmas.” – Doris Wilson, retired, Victoria.
