Christmas is done and gone, so now it's time to turn toward the next big holiday, New Year's Eve. As the 2011 approaches, fellow ranging reporter J.R. Ortega and I were thinking over the past year and wondering what things people will remember most. (For me, it was a super-exciting trip to Kerrville, the time I almost met Maya Angelou - if a university president had been willing to shove me and pretend it was an accident I would've actually met her - and, oh yeah, joining up with the fine people at the Victoria Advocate.) So this morning I braved the ominous gray skies to head out to IHOP and ask Crossroads residents what they'll remember from the good year of 2010. Here's what they said:

"Nothing. I'm glad this year is almost over and that it's going to be a new year." - Rebecca Norsworthy, Papa John's assistant manager, Bloomington.

"Well, my husband and I are working class people. After finding out I needed to get my appendix removed I also found out I needed a hysterectomy, and if you're working class people you can't get insurance so 2010 was a disaster and that's what I'll remember." - Jackie Phillips, nurse, Victoria.

"Our trip to Hawaii. We went to the island of Kaua'i, and it was beautiful." - Sandy Brill, homemaker, Victoria.

"I'll remember how the economy was this year and how everyone started the year saying you can't shop. Then toward the end of the year when everybody decided the economy was better they all went out and started buying a bunch of things." - Rachael Littlepage, Hasting's employee, Victoria.
