Today, while photo intern Kassandra Lau and I were out eyeballing some squash of almost fairy tale proportions, there was plenty going on out in the wide, wide world.

Up in New England, new shrimping regulations have got area shrimpers in an uproar over one of the last open-access commercial fisheries possibly being made, well, not so open. Read about it here.

Meanwhile, it seems Russia is going to keep on burning, proving you can take the Communism out of a country, but it's really hard to prevent forest fires. or something like that. Read more here.

And on the shale front, Environmental Health Perspectives reporter Charles Schmidt looks at whether people are rushing into things with shale, failing to take possible health concerns into account. It's an interesting question, and you can go read up and decide for yourself here.
