The Supreme Court is a pretty fascinating entity. While they aren't quite as cool as they were back in the day, when Associate Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes sat on the bench twirling that walrussy mustache, their doings still matter.

Lately, an interesting case has been bouncing through the court system - people in Mississippi were suing about 30 energy companies, claiming that the companies caused global warming, amping up the oomph of Hurricane Katrina's punch.

It's all in the New Orleans Times-Picayune article, but the homeowners suit was thrown out by the U.S. District Court. THEN the 5th Circuit denied an appeal after eight members of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals recused themselves from the case.

The Supreme Court took a gander, and now they too have said a polite "No thank you" to hearing the case.

Which brings it all back to the important question: how did Holmes get his mustache to twirl that way. Well, no.

Really, it looks like the important questions - Were greenhouse gases at all to blame? Are the energy companies at all responsible - won't get answered. So, I guess I'll just ponder Holmes' mustache instead.
