Okay, so I love books. There's nothing like a book on a bad day, a good day, after a long day or at the beginning of the day. Subsequently, I hate, loathe and despise e-readers. E-readers are one of the few issues out there I feel truly militant about. Drop a book in a bathtub, the worst you get is some wet pages. Try dropping an e-reader in a vat of water - it's a whole different story.

So this morning, I went out into the balmy weather to talk to IHOP patrons about the future of books. Will books survive e-readers? Here's what they said:

“No, I don’t think it will. Books have been around for many ages still continue to be around.” – Leon Morales, Invista employee, Victoria.

“I would say that they could be less popular around young people, but then I have a granddaughter and she loves books. I’m just not that turned on by e-books. E-readers just don’t seem real, and there’s nothing like a real book.” – Robert Bryan, sales manager, Mentor, Ohio.

“Yeah, well, everything else is on computers now. The post office is even cutting back because people are writing emails instead of mailing letters. I think everything is going to be on computers now.” – Victor Charles, Texas Department of Criminal Justice employee, Kennedy, Texas.

“No, I hope not. I love books and I love to read.” Tony Wright, crane operator, Corpus Christi.
