I recently got to look at how eminent domain law works in Texas while writing about how Jimmy and Cathy Gips have been wrangling with the Kinder Morgan over a pipeline that is going through their property.

The Texas Supreme Court has a reputation for being "business friendly" when ruling on things like whether pipeline companies may use eminent domain to get new pipelines built.

However, a ruling last August made it a little more difficult for pipeline companies to use eminent domain. Now, the court's opinion is being challenged by the companies. The justices will review their opinion this week to see if it needs to be revised, according to a story from StateImpact Texas.

It's something to keep an eye on this week. The August ruling is one of the few times the court has ruled in favor of landowners in recent years.
