There are a million nifty things being reported out there in the wide world of energy and the environment.

If you haven't checked out the series on the drought being put on by StateImpact and PBS Newshour you oughta check it out. It's decidedly worth a gander.

Also, the PBS blog has before and after pictures of the drought's impact on the Southwest FROM SPACE. Which is as impressive looking as it sounds. Everyone has been predicting that our terrible dry season would change the landscape, but this gives us some photographic proof.

On a slightly different tack, famed musicologist Alan Lomax spent his life traveling the world recording music from all kinds of places. Now, if you've never heard Calypso music from a New York City midnight concert or the early recordings of Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie, you can do so for free as Lomax's immense archives go online. You can spend hours exploring these world's of sound, and I highly advise doing so.

If you get too sad about the damage the drought has wrought, Lomax should cheer you right up.
