When thinking about Heisman Trophy candidates in the Big 12 most people are going straight to the quarterbacks.

There's Daniel at Mizzou, Reesing in Kansas, McCoy over in Austin (yes it's a stretch) and Bradford who avoided the pitfalls of used car dealerships in Norman, Oklahoma.

But on Wednesday on an ESPN show former Houston Cougar Heisman winner Andre Ware brought up the name of a little running back in College Station.

Ware pointed to Mike Goodson as a sleeper who could win the trophy. It's not often the Aggies get love nationally, so I was a little taken aback. But after thinking about it, there may not be reason to lock Ware up in a mental institution.

Goodson is supposed to get the majority of the carries this season and has shown he has touchdown breaking speed. It will take a lot for him to win it, but it's not impossible.

After all, if Ware believes, then why can't we?

  • That is a very impressive list, but you forgot when Major Applewhite stole the hearts of the nation.
I agree with you that Bomar's situation wasn't a crime. I wrote a couple of columns while working in Oklahoma during the time of the scandal of how I didn't blame the student-athletes. Show me an 18-year-old that would turn down extra cash and I'll buy him a cookie. Of course that would be a NCAA violation as well.

  • It was nice to see you mention how a great kid like Bradford has avoided the pitfalls in Norman. I'm curious why you didn't mention the pitfalls McCoy has avoided in Austin.

  • Goodson is a good back, maybe the best in the Big 12.  The Aggies will need to win at least 9 games, probably 10 for him to win the heisman.
Nice article, It's Daniel not Daniels. I thought you were a sports writer. LLOLL
