Since the inception of this blog it has been called "All thing hoops." That was because when we at the Victoria Advocate started blogging on our website it was around September of last year. I was ready for basketball to begin and was looking forward to the rims being broken and the Spurs' dreams of a repeat being shattered.
But now, as we are only one day away from August, there is only one thing on my mind. It's not money, it's not real estate and it's not a supermodel knocking on my door to propose marriage, wealth and fame.
All it is, is college football.
Billy Mau can have his fantasy football and Mike Forman can enjoy his all-star high school football games, but I'm just looking forward to the start of the college football season. Sure, I can't wait until Memorial and St. Joseph start practicing and playing, but in my "off time" all I want to pay attention to is college sports.
That is why right now I'm informing my three loyal fans of "All things hoops" that this blog is about to change. We will no longer discuss how old the Spurs are and we will no longer talk about how the Memphis Tigers chocked at the free throw line to blow the NCAA championship.
From this day forth, this blog will be focused on college football. The topics will go from will Texas ever get back to the days of Vince Young to whether Mike Sherman will be able to turn around the program at Texas A&M. I'm also interested in Georgia being so highly touted and I can't wait to see how Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators do this season.
What sets me aside from other fans of college sports is that I care about other divisions of college sports as well. I graduated from UT at Tyler, a Division III school, so I know competition is fierce at all levels. I appreciate what Mary Hardin Baylor has done in the past couple of seasons and I want to follow Texas A&M Kingsville closely as well.
I love all forms of college football. Every week is great and I know that the second week of January is just a culmination of excellence that everyone is invited to. With this blog about college football I hope to show the entire party which is college football. I will search out stories from papers such as in San Marcos, Belton, Kingsville, Canyon, Abilene and Waco to find the stories that normally get forgotten by most of the media.
What I want from you is a discussion though. If you hear about something that should be reported on let me know at wbloomquist@vicad.com or post something on this blog. My basketball and "All things hoops" has been deflated, but I'm hoping that "The Spiral" brings new life to me and this blog.

I'm sad about the demise of All Things Hoops, but alas, I will learn to deal. Good luck with your new blog, Wes!
