Lakers vs. Celtics

On the cover of my Sports Illustrated this week there reads this quote - "This is what America wants."

The speaker is talking about world peace or prosperity. Instead, he is talking about the NBA Finals match up between the Lakers and Celtics. Of course, the person is Magic Johnson who played for Los Angeles and is a part owner of the team.

But his sentiments have been talked about ever since the Pistons and Spurs were eliminated from their respective conference finals. Sure, San Antonio fans are not happy to be watching another team, but a large section of the country agrees with Johnson.

The reason is the history. You have Bird, Johnson, Ainge, Kareem, McHale, Parrish, Worthy and many more legends of the game. The teams are the two most successful franchises in the sport. But these are different teams.

They are teams who came into the season with different outlooks. The Lakers were reeling with Kobe wanting a trade, while the Celtics were riding high with the addition of K.G. and Ray Allen.

So the question is obvious. Who is going to win the series? Along with how many sappy memories are we going to have to sit through during halftime and pregame? My pick is the Celtics and about a thousand.

    I'm going with Celtics in 6. I also think that if ESPN/ABC and the NBA don't find something else to show during halftime, I'm going to vomit. I got it, so and so had a rough childhood but overcame it to play professional ball. Bully for him. Such and such ballplayer went blind in one eye as a kid but through a miraculous pig/goat retina transplant, he has perfect vision and is the best passer on his team. GAHHHHHH!! Every year they show this crap and every year I email the league and complain about it [clearly, it has done some good]. How about switching it up a little? Show a musical performance, let a local dance troup have the floor, hells bells, show them sweeping the court, anything but more feel good, sappy crap! Celtics in 6, Paul Pierce for MVP, KG suspended the first two games of next season for decking Kobe.
