Giddings out lasts Bulldogs

After a valiant comeback, the Yoakum Bulldogs' season came to an end on the House Park Stadium turf on Friday in Austin.

Yoakum was down by 28 at one time, but cut the Giddings Buffaloes lead to 7 in the fourth quarter. Yoakum finishes the season at 8-4, one year after going 1-9 in the first year under head coach Dan Burk.

On Friday, Burk and his team should have felt proud of the two years of hardwork they've put into their program.

Hights scores his third touchdown of the second half and we have a ball game here in Austin.

Giddings leads 34-27 early with 8 minutes remaining.

A Jesse Braden 31 yard TD pass from Markert gave Yoakum 20 unanswered points and brought the score to 28-20 in favor of Giddings.

Buffaloes strike again and we're at 34-20 early in the fourth quarter.

A 73-yard run by William Markert sets up a 6-yard Hights touchdown run and the Bulldogs of Yoakum are now down 28-14.

And they recovered an onside kick.

Trey Hights finishes off a 32-yard Yoakum drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs on the board.

Giddings still leads 28-7 midway through the third quarter.

This isn't how Yoakum wanted to start the second half.

David Bradshaw has scored two touchdowns in the first three minutes, and the Buffs are up 28-0 early in the third quarter.

Brite strikes again. This time the Buffs score on a 34 pass from Trey Masek to Brite to give Giddings a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Corey Brite returns a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and Giddings is up 7-0 midway through the first quarter.

Yoakum will go on offense first here in Austin against Giddings. Bulldogs and Buffs both come in with 8-3 records and looking to advance in the Class 3A Division II playoffs.

There's not a better feeling in the world than being one of the first to arrive at a high school playoff game and knowing that you'll be one of the last to leave.

That's the situation I'm in right now as I'm staring out at the Austin skyline here at House Park. The Yoakum Bulldogs and Giddings are about an hour from kickoff in their Class 3A match up.

Neither team has gone through warm up yet on this chilly night, but the stands are starting to fill.
