In case you missed it, the Texas Longhorns are now the No. 2-ranked team in the Baseball America Top 25 poll.

Texas pitcher Brandon Workman threw a no-hitter on Sunday against Penn State to take the Longhorns to 9-0 on the season. The Longhorns play on Tuesday against Texas State before traveling to play at Stanford this weekend.

Texas A&M slipped from No. 1 in the country to No. 4 after falling Centenary and Rice last week.

Baylor is now No. 6 in the poll with wins over BYU, Houston Baptist, Houston and UCLA. The Bears only loss came against No. 9 Rice at the Houston College Classic.

TCU comes in at No. 13 to round out Texas colleges in the poll.

Just to make Mike Forman a little upset, I'll point out that UCLA dropped out of the poll after going 0-5 last week.

UT-Tyler remains No. 13 in the Collegiate Baseball Division III poll with a 10-3 record. I've never been so proud of my Patriots.

  • I'll be heading over to watch the Aggies and Utah this weekend. Baseball season has been a welcome sunny spot in College Station after a disappointing football season and a lukewarm basketball campaign.

It's going to be nice to sit back on a lazy Saturday, enjoy a hotdog of questionable origin and listen to the sweet ping of the bats.

  • Not really a fan of events like the World Baseball Classic or the Olympics. Too short, not enough time for story lines to develop and they never make any trades. I guess you could consider Mr. Alex Rodriguez a trade with him playing for the Dominican Republic, but I'd like to see Ichiro get traded to Canada or something crazy like that. Roy Oswalt pitching for China would make me smile and interested in the WBC.
Until then, I'm more apt to watch bowling on lazy Sunday mornings than the "classic".
