St. Joseph opponent heading to Texas

Connor Wood has been no match for the St. Joseph defense, but the Texas Longhorns have been impressed enough with the Houston Second Baptist quarterback.

Wood, who led his Eagles to a 24-12 loss to the Flyers this season, made his oral commitment to the Longhorns two weeks ago. St. Joseph coach John Mares said the Flyers and Houston Second Baptist will play again next year. The game was played in El Campo this season and Mares said it will be at a neutral site again next year in Wood's senior season.

He also said I was two weeks late in reporting Wood deciding to go to Texas.

St. Joseph beat the sophomore version of Wood, 28-7, at Patti Welder Stadium in 2007. St. Joseph also beat HSB 6-3 in 2006.

Wood was recruited to Austin by former Texas quarterback Major Applewhite.
