Bring your Hutto banners and posters out to the event. It's supposed to be a sunny day, so we'll make sure to pass out the No Hutto! fans that Williamson County organizer Jane Van Praag creatively designed.

  • “What happens if you privatize prisons is that you have a large industry with a vested interest in building ever-more prisons.” -- Molly Ivins, 2003
The T. Don Hutto Facility is a medium security prison run by the Tennessee based Corrections Corporation of America that detains pregnant women and women with children awaiting immigration court hearings. This is a violation of the rights of children a waste of taxpayer dollars that goes to corporations and lines the pocket of CCA shareholders. Most taxpayers are concerned that immigrants are free loaders and live off of welfare and food stamps, but the truth of the matter is that they are a positive contributing force in America. It actually cost more money to run a facility like Hutto than if all its inmates received government aid (which they don’t because as undocumented immigrants they do not qualify), but the money spent to run this prison could house each child, adult and employee in a first class hotel for well over a year, and that also includes room service.
The xenophobia and anti-immigrant hysteria was and is a cleverly calculated media hype and Americans are falling for it. Take for instance, Lou Dobbs with his hate filled rhetoric about immigrants. He gets paid millions of dollars convincing the American public that immigrants, especially those who come from South of the Border are a serious threat to American society. Americans will lose each and every time if you allow this to continue because private companies are profiting from the incarceration of children.

  • Frankly, I couldn't agree more - they, and their parents, should be repatriated as soon as possible. Illegal immigration, the root cause of the children being "imprisoned," should be stopped - stopped cold.
The reasoning implied and betrayed here is so bewildered, though, that I have no hope of anything but marching and rallying like this.  As I've said elsewhere, what crime the illegal immigrant commits should not be excused because punishment would disturb his their children?
Please be good enough to explain ALL of your position, its implications and results included.
