Well, golfers headed to the links after Jan. 1 won't find any major rule changes to contend with after the Royal & Ancient Golf Club and U.S. Golf Association added their latest amendments to the game this week.

Most of the changes were to help clarify a number of the rules to help make it easier for the golfer. And best of all, the rules won't be amended again until 2012. In all 28 of the 34 rules were amended.

One of the big changes concerns the penalty when a ball deflects off a player. The rule as stated was a two-shot penalty and the loss of the hole in match play. Under revision of Rule 19-2, the penalty will now be one shot in stroke play and match play.
