Edward Loar of Dallas had it all working Thursday. Loar aced the par-3 No. 15 and grabbed the early second-round lead with his second 1-under 71. Loar one of the last players to tee off in the morning, has a two-shot clubhouse lead over Ryan Nelson of Dickninson. Nelson posted a second-round 73 and was at 144, while Loar is in at 142. The lead may well stand as no one appears to be finding the right combinations to overcome the wind and hard greens in the afternoon. Gabe Reynolds of San Marcos and Stuart Hendley of Midland, have turned in the best scores of the afternoon at the turn at 1 under. which puts them a shot back of Loar. Winn Smith made the turn at 3 under and is at 4 over. The field will but cut to the top 45 plus ties and the current cut marks looks to be 5 over par. However, that could fluctuate up or down a stroke depending on how the afternoon scores come in.
