For years I jotted down random thoughts, poems, short stories on whatever piece of paper was handy. They'd often end up in a shoebox stuffed in a closet somewhere. At some point, don't remember exactly when, I began writing in a notebook. It didn't matter what kind - journal, spiral - the point was to keep everything together in some general area.
When I independently published my book of poems and short stories, the shoebox came out, the notebooks came out and I had to decide what was worth putting in print and what was not.
It was a hoot reading back on some of the things I thought were good at the time I wrote them. I could clearly see my growth over the years, not only as writer, but as a person.
