Sitting through the Shropshire murder trial in Cuero last week was a stark reminder of how murder's tragedy radiates from the victim, to the victim's family, to the suspect's family, to the community.
As I continue to work on the book on the Butts murders in 1992, I am remembering how many peoples' lives have been affected by that triple homicide. The first few years of memorial services were gut-wrenching.
Now that the suspect is finally going to trial for the crime, the victims family and the community are again going to have to relive the tragic events.
I can still vividly see, in my mind's eye, the videotape of the crime scene and the three lifeless bodies someone left there. I hope my words on paper do them justice.
