I am going to wander a little off topic this morning, although it's still writing related. On the discussion forums in reaction to Aprill Brandon's column on sexism, someone posted a comment about a grammatical error.
We all make mistakes. I think our editors would agree more errors than we'd like slip through into print on a regular basis, but they are just that...mistakes. Human error, not made of ignorance, just plain, simple mistakes. We honestly try to do it right, perfectly right, every time. But mistakes happen.
Anytime there is a mistake in a headline I have to laugh as I remember a pretty bad one I made once. I had my own community newspaper in newsletter format and inadvertently left the letter "L" out of the word "public" in a headline. Oops!
In my correction in the next issue, I blamed spell check (see it doesn't catch everything) and explained I was only off by a hair! Oh dear!
So, yes there are mistakes in the paper. We all make them. Don't you?
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone," or something like that.
Keep writing.
