This is the final part  of the series about  preparing a non-fiction book proposal, and its the part that most writers probably dread the most because it seems to have the least to do with writing.

The first is the market itself. You need to explain why your book is timely, important and unique. Identify your target audience and look at specific trends in the marketplace. This make take a little research on your part, but it is what agents expect. Discuss why your book will stand out in the crowded market. You'll need to actually list some similar books that are already out there and tell your potential agent why yours is better.

The other aspect of this is promotability. What are you, the author, willing to do to promote your book. My answer is always "anything and everything," but you'd be surprised at how many people shy away from book signings and other self-promotion. The days of just writing a book, sending it in and collecting a check are gone.  You've got to be a partner in promotion.

We've covered a lot of ground in the last few blogs about a non-fiction book proposal. I hope it has helped. If you have questions about any of it, feel free to get in touch.

Keep writing.
