Question of the Day: What effect does interacting with animals have on people?

Many people have pets -- cats, dogs, and other animals. Many times they are treated like family members. We've all seen stories about how dogs visiting nursing homes or hospitals perk up the residents and patients. What effect do you think interacting with animals has on people? We'd like to know.
