I was delighted to hear that Victoria native Lt. Col. Vanessa Hicks-Callaway will be the grand marshal of the Black History Month parade on Saturday. Last year I did an article on Vanessa and her equally successful twin sister, Lt. Col. Jennifer Hicks-McGowan, two of the most intelligent, classiest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing.. So turn out Saturday and return Vanessa's wave as she leads the parade. You might want to snap her a salute too for a job well done, a real hometown success story. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Patti Welder Magnet Middle School and end at the Victoria Community Center. The Black History Month Festival will immediately follow the parade in the community center and will last until 4 p.m. Admission is free.
