(ATLANTA, Texas) -- To be honest, I wasn't sure this day would ever come. Whenever I first decided to write a book about the 1992 Butts triple homicide here, doubt outweighed confidence more often than not. It wasn't until two of the principals in the story -- Kevin Hailey and Kathy Weaver -- were both safely behind bars for good that I was sure the book would become a reality. Frankly, I was scared to write it as long as either one of them was free. Read "Among Murderers and Madness" and you'll understand why and agree with me. Today I am back in Atlanta -- I moved from here in 2005 -- books in hand about to sell and sign them at the public library. I'm not sure how the turnout will be -- there seems to be a lot of buzz -- or the reaction. Both have been positive so far and I am hoping for more of the same. But it's not about sales or recognition or any of that stuff really, it's always been about getting the story out there. Telling, from my perspective, how such a horrid crime could be committed in a small town and go unpunished for so long. As well as the stories behind what the public knew and the people around the case. The book is a reality now and so is this morning's event The story is being told. It's been a long time coming.
