The whole purpose of a newspaper, TV station or radio station is to report unbiased news. Be it on the printed, on air, or internet content.
The VA obvious bias against the district attorney contradicts these values.
Just because a elected public official  has asked for record or notes , ( which do not violate the "protect a source" 1st. amendment rights), is no reason for a news source to try and slant the publics perception of the public official.
First the VA said that there reporter only responded to a request to be present , to hear not one ,not two but three public officials "off the record" comments.
The VA immersed themselves in the story claimed 1st amendment rights to not give the reporters notes over, although the story had been printed  and all participates names where mentioned.
And now the VA publishes a extremely bias article to support there position.
I've said it before, my uncle John Alkek jr, managing editor at the VA for a number of years would be disappointed about the coverage and obvious bias the VA represents today.

  • I beg to differ. Commercial media exists to generate a profit for it's operators/owners. It's purpose beyond popularity (and hence higher advertising revenue) is profit.
In markets that are too small to avoid monopoly ownership (see Victoria TV), or high expenses (see Victoria radio) or historical advantage (VicAd) this is what is tolerated.
Even Metro markets of Houston and San Antonio no longer have competition in the print media market. The idea that newspapers have a "purpose" beyond profits is misguided.
If the VicAd lost ad revenues due to it's managements views and performance, the current staff would be culled.
    Is your job any different?
