Yes, it is almost upon us, my very first 5k race. All in the name of finding a cure for breast cancer.

Truth be told, although I have been aware of cancer research and I have donated for the cause, my first intention to walk is to get fit for my sister's wedding in August.

This was a way, I found, to keep pushing me to changing my bad eating habit ways.

The 5K will take place at Sundance Square in Downtown Fort Worth.

This is the race course map.

I have never dealt with breast cancer or know of anyone who has had breast cancer, but I did have a cervical cancer scare a few years ago. One misdiagnoses that scared me to the core.

Not the best of times. Was very scared for the "what if's." I was one of the lucky ones. I thank God everyday, my diagnosis was a misdiagnosis.

But I can't help but think of the women who have not been so lucky and have had to endure the diagnosis, the pain and everything they have to go through.

Since then, I have taken it upon me to donate for the cause and taken the steps to care for myself.

But this is my first walk.

Never imagined or thought about it, but here I am.

I don't know what to expect. All I know is that I have been preparing myself for the unexpected. Been working out and eating healthy.

Here is what my shirt looks like:
