So I have a confession to make, I joined the gym last week.
And this didn’t happen over night. It was not a New Year’s Resolution. I’ve been thinking about it, for the past few months.
Everyday for the last few months, I would drive pass the gym and think, “I must turn here and go inside the building…oh look Sonic!” and would just ignore the urge to join the gym.
Most of the time I would use work as an excuse.
Must finish writing that article.
Or the “I-am-too-tired-and-hungry” line.
I have watched an episode of The Biggest Loser, eating a bag of chips.
But last week I’ve had enough and after tirelessly thinking about this, I went and joined.
And so glad I did.
I spent the first few days trying to figure out what I would like to do.
Use the treadmill? Take some kickboxing? How about some swimming?
The class that intrigued me the most was the Latin Cardio Dance class taught by Gabriel at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Yes, you should join - it’s fun!
Not knowing what to expect, I attended. Took a friend with me too, I figured if I was going to make a fool of myself, at least I would do it in the presence of someone I knew.
The class moved quickly, the beat of the music was fast paced and it was difficult for me to catch on.
But I didn’t give up.
Everyone in the class knew the steps.
Front and back, side to side.
When they were moving to the right, I was moving to the left. When they kicked, I clapped.
I don’t usually admit to being a bad dancer, or to even admit to knowing how to dance. I guess I am taking the phrase “dancing to the beat of your own beat” to a different level.
In the end, the class was fun and entertaining and I for one will be a regular at that class.
So the moral of the story is, don't give up. Go for it and Try it. Week of changes:. out with the old, literally, and in with the new! You never know what you will end up with. For me, I hope that I can some day do the entire 45 minute class without skipping a beat.
