On Saturday I drove to Rosenberg for a cup of coffee.

Truth be told, I am a Starbucks junkie and will drive to the nearest coffee shop for a cup. Don’t believe me? Check my Foursquare feed. I have trailed Starbucks from Chicago, to St. Petersburg and back to Texas.

Some don’t understand my passion for the coffee bean, and others, like my best friend and health reporter for the Victoria Advocate (like the plug?) JR Ortega knows that when I go visit him in Victoria, no matter what we do, we are heading to Starbucks.

But it’s not all about the coffee I am intrigued by or it’s not its variety of different kinds of coffees. I honestly could not tell you the differences between their bold blend or espresso blend. For me, it is the atmosphere. And before anyone starts to throw coffee beans at me, I love going to Main Street Coffee bar here in Bay City, it is by far one of the best places for me to go write, read my newspaper and just hang out after a long production day. There have been instances where people have been looking for me and all they have to do is go to the coffee bar and I am there.

But there will be times when I want to get away.

Driving for me a therapeutic, driving allows me to clear my head after a long work week. The trip to the city makes me appreciate my job, where I live and what I have. I had never lived anywhere where I had to drive an hour to get somewhere. But now that I live in Bay City, these trips for me are more then just coffee. Can I say that it’s a way for me to find myself in this world? Would that be too poetic? It’s just coffee right?

And now that I live in this area, day trips for me are common. After a long week of writing, layout designing and chasing people around for stories (Hey, this sounds familiar) I want nothing but to either sit in my favorite pajamas and watch endless hours of television, but there is also that side of me that wants nothing but to get in my car and drive away. We all need to do that from time to time right?

I enjoy the small town atmosphere of Matagorda County, but this city girl will always need to head to the big city for relaxation, even for that cup of coffee.
