The redistricting for Victoria County helped to balance the population for each of our elected officials. The changes in Victoria were small compared to other communities but still significant enough to alter commissioner, justice of the peace and constable boundaries. One of the new election precincts created is designated as Election Precinct No. 6.

While we did have an election precinct 6 last year it was an area absorbed into election precinct 5. Since the polling location for the old precinct 5 was closed the polling place for 5 was moved to Crain Elementary. A new area created by the need for boundary changes was formed and designated as the new election precinct 6.

The 2012 Election Precinct No. 6 is bounded by Sam Houston Street, Red River Street, Ben Wilson Street and Airline Road. This is a fairly compact area. Still we need election judges to work the polling location on Election Day. The polling location will be Family Worship Center located at 501 Sam Houston Drive.

Individuals who are registered voters, who live within the boundaries of the new election precinct 6 and who wish to serve as election officials should contact the Elections Office at 576-0124 or e-mail us at elections@vctx.org. All election personnel are paid for working in the election.

We have two elections coming in May. The City of Victoria and Victoria College will be conducting an election on May 12th. The other election is the long awaited primary election to be held on May 29th.

Training for election officials will be held in late April but there is also online training available. Contact the office for more information about the online training.

What better way to show your involvement in the community than to assist your neighbors in casting their vote.
