The Victoria County Elections Office has changed its location from downtown to the Patti Dodson Health Center, Suite 500. After over twenty years in the old location the move is both welcome and a bit sad. We are happy to be in our new home but sorry to be leaving the downtown county complex.

Over the years the manner in which we conduct elections has morphed into a larger beast. Early voting has grown from being about 20% of the election to now being over 50% of an election. In both 2008 and 2012 the old office saw 11,000 voters crowd through our hallways and early voting room. The parking lot, with just 20 spaces, and the surrounding street parking were many times overwhelmed with the crush of visitors. Still all of the voters seemed to understand and exhibited real patience in waiting in line. Even with the large turnout I don't remember anyone having to stand in line for more than 40 minutes. When you here of five and six hour waits in other parts of the country you can appreciate only having to wait 40 minutes.

The new location parking lot is much larger. I haven't counted the spaces yet but I am sure there must be more than 100. Our old early voting room was rather small. We will be using Classroom A for early voting where in general elections we have opened before. Now with easier access we are hoping all of our voters who formally came downtown will find us much easier in the center of town.

Being downtown for so many years spoiled me a little being that I lived only five blocks from work. After over twenty-seven years working for the county I will now have to drive a mile to work. I'll miss the quick access to home but look forward to the changes in store for the future.

The Elections Office is now located at Patti Dodson Health Center, 2805 N. Navarro, Suite 500. Our phone number stays the same at 576-0124.

Early Voting in Person for the May 11th City of Victoria Election begins on Monday, April 29th at the Patti Dodson Health Center, Classroom A. We will no longer offer early voting downtown. We will be open from 8 am to 5 pm through May 7th with extended hours of 7 am to 7 pm on May 3rd and May 7th. When you come to vote early make a stop at our new offices.
