The Democratic and Republican Parties of Victoria County will hold a Joint Primary Election on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The county has been approved in the use of countywide voting for all elections and the parties will utilize Vote Centers. This allows a registered voter from anywhere in Victoria County to vote at any of the thirty-six Election Day Vote Centers. Polls will be open from 7 am to 7 pm. A complete list of polling locations can be found at the Victoria County Elections website at www.vctx.org/elections.

Primary elections are held by the Democratic and Republican Parties to select the party's candidate for the general election in November. Other parties in the state will hold conventions to select their candidates. The selection of a party's nominee for the general election is an important issue.

Just as you may only vote once in an election you may only vote once in a primary. You must select only one party's ballot to cast your vote and you may not participate in the activities of the other party during the election year. Your voter registration does not assign you to a political party before the primary so you are open to vote in either party's election. Once you select a party and cast your ballot in that party's primary election you may participate in the conventions and meetings of that same party.

When the general election comes in November, you are once again free to vote for the candidates of your choice, no matter to which party they belong.

Early Voting by Mail is currently underway. Anyone who is eligible to cast a mail ballot may request an application by contacting the Elections Office at 576-0124 or elections@vctx.org.

Early Voting in Person will begin on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 and continue through Friday, February 28, 2014. Regular hours of early voting in person will be from 8 am to 5 pm, weekdays at the Pattie Dodson Public Health Center located at 2805 N. Navarro, Classroom A. An additional day of Saturday, February 22nd from 9 am to 5 pm will be offered as well as additional hours of 7 am to 7 pm on only the last two days of February 27 & 28.
