There's a reason sex offenders must register with the state every time they move.
In my opinion, you deserve to know if a sex offender lives in your neighborhood.

my husband is not a perv and why should i divorce the most decent man and father i have ever meet. he loves me and my daughter. Trust i did my research on my husband and his charges before we decided to get married and have a baby.i would have never been with him if i ever doubted him for one minute because i to was a child of molestation. so i am very very protective of my daughter. he was only a teenager when he made an inappropriate comment to someone. for that he has had to deal with this for 10 years. what i don't understand is when i look up my husband it has everything address, pics, shoe size but other offenders.. (child offenders) have nothing.... just because they get out off being charged as a sex offender they should still be required to post on the site (i.e. mr. ratcliff.). But thank god this year we are freed of this whole thing. most non-violent offenders only have to register for 10 years.. now if it were a violent crime and a repeat offender they do have to register for life.
May 25, 2009 at 11:23 a.m.From the article you cite--"Ratcliff has said he suffered health problems after being indicted in October 2007, when he was the district attorney's chief of staff. He was indicted for aggravated sexual assault of a teenage boy, but later agreed to a plea deal of aggravated perjury." He actually had several felony charges against him, but you see how it turned out.
This is one way that some sex offenders escape having to register. They plead to another non-sex related offense, and they don't have to register.
May 23, 2009 at 9:17 a.m.Well I think it is certainly a useful tool to know where the sex offenders live around you I think sometime the law is a little to strict when it comes to charging young people for sex crimes. Not saying some don't deserve it but when a 14 year old girl or boy sends nude photos of themselves to other friends and then are charged with child pornography. I think that is a little to severe of a charge. And I have heard of other kids that did things I didn't think were really that bad to be labeled a sex offender for the rest of your life. Once I looked up a boss of mine because I thought he was a little creepy and he was on the list for a couple of offenses against a woman. Well at least it was not a child but still it was something bad enough to be labeled a sexual predator. Later on I looked again and he was not on there so I'm not sure what's up with that. He still lives in the same place. I thought once you were a predator you were for the rest of your life.
May 23, 2009 at 8:57 a.m.Since Im new, Ill pose a question, the article yesteday said that a former sheriff had been charged with molesting a young boy. Is he listed? I dont find him,
May 23, 2009 at 8:35 a.m.They make this thing called divorce. you could try that out and not marry a pervert next time.
May 23, 2009 at 1:05 a.m.ROBINSMOM--
Sorry to hear that you are having to suffer because of your husband's poor choices. That is one of the sad facts of a sexual predator's life--his family suffers for what he has done. The family is often as much a victim as the person who was targeted by the predator.
I'm not sorry to say that I, too, would complain if he moved next to me. It doesn't really matter to me the nature of your husband's offense, if he has to register--I don't want him as a neighbor.
May 22, 2009 at 11:45 p.m.my husband is a registered sex offender his case is much different then the ones i see online. we had lived at our previous residents for awhile and right before my daughter was born i went outside to our front yard and it was littered with fliers of my husband. his crime and pic with the word pedophile. he was not a pedophile if the person that printed out these fliers would have read his crime had nothing to do with a child. he has followed the laws that are required of him but because of this incident are landlord felt he had to evict us because other tenants and homeowners were complaining. I do not feel just because of his past people are allowed to do this i understand you want to protect your children i do to but what gives you the right to harass us.
May 22, 2009 at 11:26 p.m.Just remember, this Registry is only as good as the predators make it. It is accurate only when the participants follow the law and register. If they move and don't update, the information is no good.
The Registry is better than nothing. But if you know that a sexual predator has moved, you can notify VPD and advise them. Then, if the predator fails to update, they'll bust him.
These folks didn't observe the rules of polite society to begin with, so do not assume they will now comply since discovered.
May 22, 2009 at 6:39 a.m.Here's a better source on sex offenders.
Go to WWW.crimereports.com Type in your address and zip at the top. The sight will show you crimes committed in your area for the last wewek, month or year. But better still, it will show the names and addresses of registered offenders in your immediate area. Or just type in Victoria, TX for the same results. You will be amazed and/or horrified at the number of sex offenders in our fair city
May 21, 2009 at 11:20 p.m.Good tip, txzambo. Thanks.
May 21, 2009 at 9:54 p.m.There is a site, I think watchdog.com and you can subscribe and it will alert you when sex offenders move in or out within so many miles of where you live and work.
May 21, 2009 at 9:31 p.m.Sexual Predator Registry this works alot better. When I look at the map it is amazing how many red squares are around schools and how many little ones I see walking home from school unescorted by a parent or other adult
May 21, 2009 at 9:17 a.m.Our neighborhoods and school districts are diligent about posting this information. Specific names and addresses are deleted to protect other family members, but when the kids were young, we mom's would look up the specifics and pass it around. Many of us would phone each other to report when the individual was out for the jogs or walks or whatever. Mild intimidation but it made us feel better to really need to do some weeding when the idiots made their public appearances. I do know one pedophile who made a commitment to the Lord, but is like an alcoholic, and struggles with the issues every second of the day. He prays for the Lord to take him soon, and I pray right along with him. Better him dead than another young life destroyed.
May 21, 2009 at 7:52 a.m.One of my friends is 62 years old, and has finally come to grips with her loss of innocence. She just could not shake the sadness. Years of therapy and an understanding that she was the innocent finally, finally set her free. We've cried and prayed for at least 20 years over this. Her hub was ready to leave her, and she was ready to down a bottle of pills. This was such a tough ride for her. When her abuser died, I went to the funeral with her so she could find closure. This stuff is so deep for the victims, so yeah, parents guard your kids.
A brilliant young student who threatened to kill me was abused by his mom and her friends. Talk about a dangerous mind. When he got out of alternative and wanted to come back to my class, I just really had a heart to heart with him. I legally had the grounds to reject him from my class room and I refused to let him back in. My admins were furious, but I stood my ground. He was truly a dangerous mind, 15 in the 6th grade just waiting to drop out. I looked him in the eye, told him I loved him, but he was a victim of a mother who sacrificed him for a drug addiction. I finally got him to go to the anger management sessions during my class slot. Admin was still unhappy. The kid was brilliant but so damaged. At the end of the year he showed up at my door and wanted to know if I had ever been afraid of him and he was sorry. He never would have killed me. I told him that he was wrong on that note, he would have indeed killed me that particular week in time, and would now be in an adult facility for the crime. There were too many witnesses to the actual event that sent him away to alternative. I told him to stay in therapy until he could understand that pure evil did this to him and he was the innocent. Maybe he will recover, maybe not. Rage is and awful emotion, but when I read this student's history, I understood why. I continue to pray that this brilliant mind continues to overcome his abuse. There are so many walking wounded on this earth.
Does 'predator' work for you? That is what they are.
They should all be listed on a Sexual Predator Registry.
We think about kids in this context, but there is a whole world of sexual predators who target adults. So, just because you may not have kids doesn't mean you don't need to know this stuff.
May 21, 2009 at 7:27 a.m.Here is another site that offers a map not sure how current it is but it also has pics of some of the offenders. Is it me or does offenders sound like to nice a word for these people?
