It is hurricane season and predictions are for up to a dozen or so named storms. Hurricane Greg is currently in the eastern Pacific Ocean and is no threat to Texas.

So it should be no surprise that another potentially big storm is forming in the Central Caribbean Sea.

As of 7 a.m. Thursday, this not yet named storm was about 200 miles south-southwest of Jamaica. Now that may seem a long way away, but looking at it on the National Weather Service Hurricane Center map, it seems to be headed right for the Gulf of Mexico. Of course, there is plenty of opportunity for it to turn and not make it into the Gulf.

The NWS forecast calls for it becoming a tropical depression later today or tonight with an 80 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.

Stay tuned.
