About 6;45 p.m., Hurricane Isaac made landfall in Southeastern Louisiana. Storm surge, flooding and power outages were causing issues in some rural areas and as of 7 a.m., the National Weather Service reported Isaac was "wobbling inland over Southeastern Louisiana." The center of the storm about 20 miles southeast of Houma, La. and 50 miles south-southeast of New Orleans. It had been stationary between 6 and 7 a.m., but was expected to begin moving again toward the northwest at 6 mph. A sustained wind of 55 mph with a gust of 70 was reported at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport.
