Given the recent battles on the VicAd and the mention of a fictional movie over and over and over and over....oops sorry, I decided to write a fun blog (well at least to me) about some of my favorite movies past and present. Just curious if anyone has the same taste or if they haven't seen something maybe a good review is in order. Lets start with recent. Transformers-loved, sequel, not so much... The first one was entertaining and since I grew up wishing my refrigerator would morph into Optimus Prime, I was excited to see the second one. Boy was that a let down. You can't digest anything because Michael Bay wants to show you something different all the time. Quick over there no over there .....aaahhh you missed it. Not to mention the first hour or so was just for the 10 year old boys in the room. Now I am in love with Gran Torino. I must admit I am a Clint Eastwood fan. I think this one is at the top of my list. Now for past......I apologize in advance I am an 80's child. I so love Labrynth and David Bowie for that matter. Princess Bride is another one I adore and can watch a million times. I must go mainstream and say I love all of the brat pack movies. I love Rudy, Lucas, Goonies, Tron, and any and all B rates with Bruce Cambell. (Army of Darkness is my number one.)
Now for the ones I disliked, recently- Terminator-give it a rest already. I so do not want to see a naked Arnold. Star Trek was a big fat waste of time. Some of it was ok, but to throw all of the characters into one movie when they came into the series at different times and ages was a stretch. What was with the love thing with Spock? Anyway, I despise Ma and Pa Kettle movies because my parents use to think they were the funniest things in the world and would make me watch them. I don't like Pretty Woman (gasp!)Glorifying a hooker is beyond me. I hated Titanic....well I liked the history because I lost family on the Titanic, however, the love story was awful. Why was everyone mad at Billy Zanes character, she was the tramp and cheated on her fiance! He had every right to be mad. Anyway, I know this has no relevance at all, but I want to just run off at the mouth about something positive!

Hubby & I just watched "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf" & now he refers to me as Martha.
August 7, 2009 at 11:26 p.m.freethinker...I'm not the world's biggest fan of chick fliks either, but there are some good ones. "Pretty Woman" is one of the better ones -- if you remember that IT'S A MOVIE for cryin' out loud. My all time favorite chick flik is "Fried Green Tomatoes." An excellent movie.
I've been having some fun with HULU lately. They've got some pretty good movies for free and the commercials are only about 15 to 30 seconds. Hardly noticable. I'm in the middle of a two week free trial of Netfliks. So far, I've watched some streaming movies on the computer and a couple of DVDs. I'm waiting for the next DVDs to show up.
I haven't seen anything at the theater in the last several years that I thought was worth the price with the possible exception of "Mama Mia" and "The Proposal." "Mama Mia" is only about the third musical I've ever enjoyed.
August 7, 2009 at 10:31 p.m.I thought Pretty Woman was pretty good for a "chick flick" which I usually don't care for. Julia Roberts was great in her role and so was Richard Gere and Jason Alexander. It was obviously a total fairy-tale. I thought Airplane was hilarious. I was a little disapointed in Dewey Cox/Walk Hard. It was worth renting on DVD but I wished I had not paid to see it at the theater. I saw Titantic at the theater and thought it was entertaining. The script could have been a little better.
August 7, 2009 at 7:45 p.m.Ma and Pa could argue pretty good on math..
But it's just hard too be old school true comedy....
More of the best...

August 7, 2009 at 8:13 a.m.The new Transformers was funny. Me and the kids laughed through 90% of it! The old Steve McQuine (sp?) were the best. The little lady made me sit down and watch the breakfast club with her for the umteenth time. And don't get me started on Lonesome Dove, it was a good movie but I'm tired of seeing it already!!!!! I still love the original Blues Brothers. And Clint Eastwood has to be the best of all though. I have the entire collection from begaining to end. We bought Gran Torino the day it came out, not to mention seeing it 3 times at the movies!
August 7, 2009 at 7:35 a.m.Pa Kettle was a math whiz in one movie!
August 6, 2009 at 11:19 p.m.You can find me on a good day renting 5 movies at the library every week. I have watched all of the Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitcock, John Wayne, Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Gene Autry, and Lucille Ball movies they have. I think I would like Ma and Pa Kettle if I didn't have to watch it all the time as a kid. When I was young those movies bored me. It may be a generational thing, but I sure do love me some black and whites and silent films. I always watched movies with my parents. Seems like now there is hardly any "family" movies being made.
August 6, 2009 at 10:47 p.m.no no no,...how can you despise Ma and Pa?
I have some on DVD.
Amazon is great for some old stuff on DVD. Things like "Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart.
Had to get Andy Griffith in "No Time for Sargeants" somewhere else.
Pretty Woman is pretty bad.
But it's all a generational thing I guess. Half the movies I see today are not too good. The latest Dilinger movie was good.
August 6, 2009 at 8:22 p.m.HAHAHAHAHAHA "suck at their jobs (no pun intended)" that got me laughing pretty hard. I have yet to see Dewey Cox, Hubs and I love Airplane. Leslie Neilson (sp?) is so funny.
August 6, 2009 at 6:09 p.m.I hate to admit it but my favorite movies right now are Dewey Cox/Walk Hard & Step Brothers & anything with Paul Rudd. Silly humor, I know. I saw Airplane! the other night & had to drag it out & rewatch it on DVD...that movie is still hysterical!
I have never seen Titanic & I am very proud of that fact. Pretty Woman is the worst, not only glamorizing prostitution but putting the belief in females heads that they could be a prostitute & then fall in love & run away with a multi millionaire. It is also offensive to the hookers who have yet to fall in love & run away with a multi millionaire, insinuating they obviously must suck at their jobs (no pun intended). Some people actually believe what they see.
