Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information what appeared to be a model rocket that nearly missed a Continental Express jet late last month.
The rocket sizzled past the plane after it took off from Bush Intercontinental Airport about 8 p.m. on May 29, officials said.
Investigators determined it lifted off somewhere in Chambers County, but they have been unable to find out who launched it.
The pilot said the rocket passed about 100 feet beneath the plane. It looked to be five to seven feet long.

ALTON: this was the 2nd time I noticed it posted on the net. I believe the original item said that law departments in Liberty (?) and Chambers (?) counties are seeking clues to where these rockets are being launched. A Continental pilot related seeing a rocket that had an estimated length of 5 to 7 feet and triangular fins level off about 100 feet below his craft. So far the pilots seeing this have been flying high enough they've not been impacted, er, at least their flights haven't. By noting the times of the events, officials have a rough idea of general launch areas. It seems the first one happened not very long after takeoff from BUSH (IAH) AIRPORT. I don't think a military weapon is suspected. I don't know if there are any that small capable of reaching those heights? Do you?
June 17, 2009 at 3:05 p.m.Rusty could you be asking the same questions I have about this event?
June 15, 2009 at 9:09 p.m.How did they know it was a home made rocket? Did they actual find any parts of it? Who identified it as being a home made rocket? What was it made of? What was its fuel source? Could it have been a military weapon?
